Charlotte Fiell

Charlotte Fiell (b.1965) studied at the British Institute, Florence and at Camberwell School of Arts & Crafts, London, where she received a BA (Hons) in the History of Drawing and Printmaking with Material Science. She later trained with Sotheby’s Educational Studies, also in London.
Together with her husband Peter, the Fiells have run a London-based design consultancy that advises private individuals and public institutions on all aspects of collecting. They have also taught courses on the history of design at Central St Martin’s College of Art & Design, lectured widely, curated a number of exhibitions and written numerous articles and books on design and designers, including Taschen’s Modern Chairs, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, William Morris, 1000 Chairs, Design of the 20th Century, Industrial Design and Scandinavian Design. In addition they have edited the Decorative Art series (six volumes), Designing the 21st Century, Graphic Design for the 21st Century, 1000 Lights (two volumes), Domus 1928-1999 (twelve volumes), Contemporary Graphic Design, and Design Now, all published by Taschen. From 1998 to 2007 the Fiells were Taschen’s international editors-in-charge of design books. In January 2008 they formed their own design-led illustrated book imprint FIELL, which will be launched at the 2009 Frankfurt Book Fair.
