Where is Maribor
Maribor is the second largest city in Slovenia located in the
Northeast, close to the national border with Austria. Here's how to get there.
Car
All major European motorways via Klagenfurt, Graz (Austria) or Trieste (Italy) are connected to Maribor.
Although not by motorways, Maribor is easily reachable also through Zagreb (Croatia) if you are coming from the Southeastern parts of Europe. A bit bigger adventure is traveling by roads from the Eastern parts of Europe (through Hungary).
Since Slovenia is not big you can always try hitching. If you venture out on Friday afternoon when students go home for the weekend, you may wait for a ride a bit longer, but also make friends.
Flights
- Ryanair (destination Graz)
- Styrianspirit (daily Paris-Salzburg-Maribor)
- Adria Airways (regional Star Alliance member)
Maribor is best served by Graz International Airport (Austria), 40 km North of the city. Graz Airport is a good choice also because it is one of RyanAir destinations.
You can reach Maribor also through Ljubljana International Airport (Brnik, Slovenia - 100 km West of Maribor), connected to the world with low fares airline EasyJet and Adria Airways. Adria Airways organizes minibus passenger service from Ljubljana Airport to Maribor three times a day (cost about 20 Euro).
Other airports you can fly to are:
- Klagenfurt (Austria - 90 km Northwest of Maribor) also one of the RyanAir destinations
- Zagreb (Croatia - 100 km Southeast of Maribor)
