What is it about?
Interaction design is one of the newest specializations in the field of design, linked to digital media and digital culture.
Interaction designers design the way in which users will get in relationship / interaction with service / product / or between them selves through the product. Interaction designers design interactions. It’s a multidisciplinary filed, closely connected to product design, graphic design, psychology, sociology, communication science, anthropology, computer science, communication technologies, architecture and art.
Does it have a goal?
The aim of the workshop is to generate ideas, focused on users. Generate ideas that integrate interaction systems into the cultural environments in which they will be used.
Workshop promotes interdisciplinary educational approach in the field of interaction. Participants will be introduced to interaction design methodology and practice.
Is it for me?
Workshop participation is limited to 20 students or practitioners who will be selected upon curriculum vitae and letter of recommendation.
Students, researches or practitioners with different educational backgrounds are welcome to apply.
Who will it be lead by?
Students will be divided into two groups, 10 participants each.
One group will be lead by Dr. Michael Smyth from Edinburgh Napier University and the other by Erik Sandelin and Magnus Torstensson, founders of Unsworn industries Interaction design and innovation studio based in Malmo, Sweden.
Coordinators of the workshop are Ivica Mitrović, Department of visual communication design, Arts Academy, University of Split, and Sara Božanić.
What will it be about?
As an introduction to the workshop, lecture about interaction design methodology and practice will be given by Ivica Mitrović.
Michael Smith, Erik Sandelin and Magnus Torstensson will present themselves to the participants through their own design practice.
After the introduction part, participants will be divided into groups. In 7 days, they will experience full design circle (process), focusing on the field work in the local context. Participants will focus on research around a given brief, identify a problem and provide a solution in the context of interaction design practice. They will design simple prototypes that will be tested on and evaluated by users.
On May 21, workshop results will be presented on public presentation.
What about the costs?
The admission fee for selected participants is 50€. Accommodation for all participants is fully covered by Magdalena Festival.
